Keedy, John A.
b. 1800, in Pennsylvania; d. September 27, 1854, in Springfield, Illinois. In 1830, Keedy married Susan Wolgamot. They had
two children in Maryland. In 1838, the family moved to Springfield, Illinois,
traveling all the way in wagons. They brought with them the first carriage ever used in Sangamon County. From 1841-1848, Keedy
served as the first ward alderman for Springfield, Illinois. He was also a merchant with S. M. Tinsley and Company. In 1850,
Keedy
was a distiller and owned real estate worth $11,500. In 1852, he was a director of the Mechanics’ and Farmers’ Bank in
Springfield, Illinois.
